In addition to all the positive community impacts, the GoM council has recognized Ms. Lowery, Ms. Luetje, and Dr. Morgan with the prestigious Annual Visionary Award for their visionary leadership on the pilot projects.
Joan LeBlanc, the Council Coordinator, stated that the Cape Porpoise Team was selected for:
…outstanding work on the Gulf of Maine Studies Community Based Stewardship Initiative. Your pilot educational collaboration among Kennebunkport Conservation Trust, University of New England, and Kennebunk Regional High School has inspired creation of similar programs in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Nova Scotia. Your innovative approach to combining interdisciplinary classroom education with outdoor learning and local environmental stewardship projects is having a lasting positive impact on students throughout the Gulf of Maine.
